After the Town of Wayne discontinued their official website in April 2026, community members lost easy online access to important information like water bill links, town hall contact details, and local resources.
This unofficial website was created as a free community service to help Wayne residents quickly find the information they need. We are not affiliated with the Town of Wayne government in any way.

History of Wayne, Oklahoma
From railroad stop to small-town America
The Railroad Era
Wayne's story begins with the California Road, which brought Gold Rush travelers through the area in 1849. Many noted the fertile farmland near the river, and some returned to settle.
After the Civil War, Texas cattle drives brought longhorns through the region. In 1887, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway established a station here, and railroad workers from Pennsylvania named it after their hometown of Wayne, PA.

- 1898: Fire destroys town businesses; Wayne rebuilds west of tracks

- 1908: Wayne serves as market for local corn, cotton, and grain
